Navarro – Palo Verde (18km). Actual 6.7 miles. 2300 feet elevation. Camino de Costa Rica Section 10
Summary
Today was cloudy with patches of sun and no rain as of 4:00 pm. We spent most of the day transiting the Palo Verde cloud forest preserve. It was so spectacular that I didn’t want to the trail through the preserve to end and walked as slowly as possible.

Details
We heard the three-wattled bellbird on and off throughput out time in the cloud forest as well as an occasional howler monkey and other assorted rainforest sounds. Watch the videos below with sound on for a sampling. The trail through the Palo Verde reserve is really pretty and one of the best sections of the Camino. It would be great if more sections like this could be found and added to the trail.
After leaving the preserve we stopped for a bit at the entrance and were entertained by a mob of hummingbirds that were swarming several feeders. There must have been at least 6 different species buzzing around and perching in adjacent trees. This would have been a great place to have a real camera.
After leaving the hummingbirds we walked for a couple of miles on dirt and asphalt roads that we a series of very steep inclines and declines. We were then picked up by a van and brought to our accommodations for the next two nights, Cerro Alto cabins. Tomorrow we will be driven back to were we were picked up today and walk back up to the cabins.
