Wicklow – K2 Alpaca Farm

Our last stop of the trip was at K2 Alpaca farms in County Wicklow. We thought it would be nice to spend a couple nights and an entire day out in the country relaxing. The owner of the farm, Alpaca Joe, converted old out building of the farm into self catering cottages. They were very comfortable and were one of the nicest places we stayed on this trip. We arrived on Wednesday afternoon and learned that there were no scheduled alpaca experiences on Thursday. We were disappointed as this was the main reason we chose to visit the farm. We found the people leading a guided alpaca walk as they were returning and the owner Joe invited to go with them as they fed some of the alpacas in the early evening. We eagerly joined him and learned that the person was Joe, the owner of the farm. I think he took pity on us and at the end of the feeding, he asked if we’d like to help him the next day by bottle feeding one of the baby alpacas whose mother had died shortly after birth. Sammy, the orphaned alpaca needed to be fed every 3 hours so we received a crash course in how to prepare the goats milk and then found and fed Sammy at noon and 3:00 pm the following day. We also joined Joe in feeding all the alpacas the following evening. It was a great experience for all of us.
