Cimarrones – Las Brisas (18 km) 9.6 miles. 2800 ft elevation gain. Camino section 2
Today’s words are less hot, more hills. We spent last night at Hotel Pacuare, where the air-conditioning and showers were very welcome. We got a pretty early start and were walking by about 8:00 after a hearty breakfast. The first 5 miles or so involved steady climbing, gaining about 1500 feet. Thereafter it was undulating up and down (also called “Costa Rica flat”) through beautiful countryside.

Before starting we picked up lunch and brought it with us. Lunch was a homemade egg, chicken, bean and fried plantains layered between two tortillas wrapped in banana leaves. Itwas delicious!
Tonight we are staying in tents at a local indigenous school. Urritrek has helped the School and in return it is allowed to use the school kitchen and grounds as part of their itinerary. There is a single cold water shower – really just a pipe in a small enclosed outside space, but it is great to be able to clean-up after a hot day of walking.

The following two videos show leaf-cutter ants at work. They are very industrious and had paths crisscrossing the school yard.
